Fighting homelessness in Jackson County with programming that makes an impact.

Our Prevention & Data Specialist and Housing Case Manager work together to prevent at-risk households from entering homelessness. Our team provides individualized services including landlord/tenant mediation, resources location and referrals, and continued support.

Our Housing Acquisition & Stabilization Program (HASP) allows us to help those without a secure nighttime residence but who have not yet entered into homelessness. This housing insecure population often has trouble qualifying for assistance and HASP allows us to bridge that gap.

Our Homeless Prevention services are available thanks to support from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, The Highlands Cashiers Health Foundation, and the Nantahala Health Foundation.

For many of our clients, their barriers to housing can be their barriers to obtaining services. Our Street & Rural Outreach Program is designed to locate those living unsheltered in the community and connect them with services. These services include accessing medical or mental health treatment, help obtaining prescriptions, or connection to shelter and housing services.

HERE also provides outdoor living items for our unsheltered clients including toiletries, food, trash receptacles, and camping items such as flashlights and blankets. Those wishing to donate can see a full list of items here.

Our Street & Rural Outreach Services are available thanks to The Great Smokies Health Foundation and North Carolina Emergency Solutions Grant.
